Storm Sailing – Part 1

BetsySteel Boat

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. –Mark Twain

I now know that you can puke and have a great time almost simultaneously and not be diagnosed as bulimic. Check out how route choices and charts are done in the new age of sailing. Captain Cook would love this.

Sailing Camp – Part 2 – Basics of Bluewater Sailing

BetsySteel Boat

Time to go Bluewater Sailing! Sail under the Milky Way, share stories, contemplate life, swim in clear blue water 2500 feet deep, let your imagination run wild as you buck through 10 foot waves, and train that imagination to serve you; and set you free. I love this. So I implore you to step an little closer to the edge and have a better look. It’s really just a gentle slope, and a great view. LIVE!

Sailing Camp – Part 1

BetsySteel Boat

I guess it’s time to learn something about sailing. Most sailing classes, you walk onto the boat and the Captain often knows little about the boat as the marina does all the maintenance. And the sailing consist some runs up and down sheltered water. This is not that. This is the real deal. For the past week I’ve gotten to work with Captain Charles Sade and help him ready his recently purchased boat; Osprey, for a passage. It’s a week of repairs to existing systems and installation of new systems. It’s what life would really be like if you were to buy a used boat.

Scuba Compressor Engine and Heat

BetsySteel Boat

An update from Patience Camp. The weather suddenly got me thinking about heat on the boat so I started down that path, and also fired up that Chinese 10HP diesel and decided it looked good enough to go ahead and build in the exhaust for it. Today I flew out of snow in Oklahoma to sunshine in Florida. I suppose it’s a good idea if I learn something about sailing while waiting too.

VMAC Generator Head Replacement

BetsySteel Boat

VMAC Multifunction provides 8kw AC at 110, 220, and even 3 Phase / DC 12, 24, 36, 48 volt; 250 amps of welding current; 45 cfm of air, and 8 gallons per minute of hydraulic fluid off a pump on the PTO. Product support is also great, but I’m hoping we just got a lemon of a generator head, because nothing should die after just 20 hours. https://www.vmacair.com/product/multifunction-power-systems/multifunction-6-in-1-power-system/
