Fresh Water Supply
Water, water, everywhere but not a drop to drinkWe will have a constant need for water and the more crew aboard, the more fresh potable water we will require. In addition to capturing as much rainwater as possible using the cabin tops and pilot house roof, we’ll also need other ways that might include Reverse Osmosis (RO), Diltilling, or evaporation.
Deck Crane
On land we’ve had the gantry’s and cranes and we know we’ll be doing plenty of heavy lifting once at sea. Mounted on the deck, our crane will be useful for many things, on and off the boat including cargo, recovery and salvage.
Winches
That’s winches, not wenches! With lots of ropes, it means lots of wenches, oops I mean winches. We plan to make our own using our cnc, casting and mill/lathe capabilities. Anchor winches, winches for hoisting sails, winches for sheets and lines…plenty of winches for everybody!
Electrical
From generators to solar panels, to turbines, to batteries… there will be a lot of buzz to deal with. Not only do we need to power the everyday stuff for navigation and communication, but we’ll need to keep the ice maker freezing and the lights on.
Refrigeration
Day sailors can usually get by with an ice chest and those just setting sail for up to a week, can manage with an ice box, but for a vessel the size of Seeker and a sizeable crew, it’s going to take some refrigeration and freezer space. If that isn’t enough, Doug’s “luxury item” (meaning, he won’t leave home without it) is an ice maker. In addition to keeping food and beverages chilled, there’s always the possibility of some A/C (but I wouldn’t bet on it.)
