Watertight Door and Latch Installation – Part 4

BetsySteel Boat

Part 3 was almost 6 years ago. ( Watertight Doors – Part 3 – Assembly  ) WOW, has it been that long? Seems like yesterday. Seriously, it does. Maybe I am enjoying this too much?

“I really don’t know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it’s because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it’s because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came.” ― John F. Kennedy

Casting and Installing Anodes & Learning to Weld

DougSteel Boat

There is something almost magical about making things with molten metals. And it is fantastic that we can make a $65 product for less than $5.

And we are thankful to our Patrons and supporters who make taking the time to make these videos worth the investment.

The plan was to be working on the cooling system in the engine room, but the weather has just been gorgeous and Ewaut is planing to build an aluminum proa, so we took on all of the aluminum welding jobs still on the list. No, we really don’t have a list. When there are still ten thousand obvious things to do. No need for a list. And thanks also the Jack McGrath, and Don Sachs who is back with us this week.

You Can Weld, It’s Easy – Pressure Testing the Hydraulic Tank

Welding is the gateway to thousands of projects. Cars, boats, trailers, furniture, sculpture, etc. Yes you can spend a lifetime getting better at it but you and manage the vast majority of the common task with less than a day of practice. Only the truly incompetent welders will suggest otherwise. 🙂

Generator Frame and Engine Room Installation

DougSteel Boat

Have you ever been in the engine room of a WWII Submarine? Yeah, that’s what it’s going to look like. Stuffed to the gills with machinery, and tools and overhead trays full of cables and hoses. Ok, our lathe is CNC but it’s sort of the same thing. Many thanks to Tony Ozimek who build the frame and base for the generator donated by Tony Fleming, as well as Julian, Chris, Mike, Brian, and Bart. Seeker crew Rock! And so do our Patrons. We asked, and many have already answered. Please consider joining our Patron crew. Thank you –Doug
