What an enjoyable project this is turning out to be. I’ve always appreciated hydraulics for their reliability and power but never did more than replace the occasional hose a check the fluid level. If you are interested in exercising your mind and curiosity then I highly recommend rebuilding an old hydraulic powered machine, and this video will hopefully be an enjoyable primer.
Elevator to Davit Winch
Chris Pilling showed up with three phase electric motor driven gear box with sprockets formerly used on a elevator. It has turned out to be a great solution for launching and recovering our tender from the davits. It’s also been a great opportunity to learn about variable frequency drives, relays, contactors, motor breaks, and radio crane controls. And many thanks to Steven and John Michelotti who modified the hoist sprockets, and Brandon Phillips for helping mount it on the transom.
Deck Crane Rebuild – Part 1
You can fix, repair, build, imagine, create most anything even with basic tools and skills. The internet, a good friend, and determination is all you need. Send us a photo of your project and spread the inspiration. Post it in our FaceBook Group: SVSeeker or email it to svseeker@ymail.com You got no project? Then turn off computer, put down your phone and get started now. Life is short.
Pilothouse Cabinets – Part 1
Many thanks to Brian Holmes for coming back and starting the cabinet buildout in the pilothouse. COVID is no excuse for sitting on the couch. Your shop and the pilothouse make great isolation rooms.
