Doug's wooden submarine was a recreation of Simon Lake's 1894 Argonaut Junior. Building it provided practical experience in fabrication, machining, hydraulics, pressure, and problem-solving before Seeker was started. Doug build another submarine before Seeker that was also named Seeker, but the Sailing Vessel Seeker replaced the Submarine Seeker before work on it was completed.
