coal tar
Coal-tar is much like black roofing tar but today it is formulated into a two part epoxy paint. Still black, thick and somewhat flexible it is the durable coating for the exterior for Seekers hull, and the interior beneath the insulation and cedar planking. Like every coating on a steel boat, their success depended on thorough cleaning and surface preparation.
