Suzanne Wilkinson Davis was born in Los Angeles, CA to Lawrence and Elizabeth Wilkinson in November of 1945. She attended Shimer College and moved to Chicago with her husband, Stafford G. Davis, after graduating. They moved to Tulsa in 1967 and were longtime residents of the Reservoir Hill neighborhood. Su had an eclectic career, holding positions at different times with Tulsa Civic Ballet (and later with Tulsa Ballet), Tulsa Opera, and the Tulsa Philharmonic. For a time, she was the General Manager of the Tulsa Press Club, she held Executive Director positions at Praxis (an adult learning nonprofit) and the Tulsa Garden Club, and she worked for several hotels, including the Mayo prior to its 1981 closing. She was involved with the Tulsa Rowing Club in its infancy and was a 'Ratkateer' volunteer for many events at River Parks. A recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award, Su was an avid camper throughout her life and was active with the Boy Scouts, Indian Nations Council for over 30 years. She was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award as well as an Order of the Arrow Fellowship, and she guided countless youth, including her sons, toward their goal of Eagle Scout. Following a harrowing battle with cancer, Su became very active as a volunteer docent at Gilcrease Museum. She expressed deep gratitude for the friendships she made with her fellow 'Gillie' volunteers over the past six years, and she derived great joy in sharing her love of art from the American West with children and adults alike. In her retirement, she continued to pursue her lifelong passion for learning by attending classes at The University of Tulsa, and she shared her love of outdoor cooking by teaching at Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshops. Through ups and downs, Su never stopped seeking outlets for her creative spirit. Her hobbies beyond camping and cooking included quilting, needlepoint, beadwork, fabric weaving, jewelry making, knitting, basket weaving, teddy bear making, deer hide tanning, sailing, skiing, fishing, and archery. She will be remembered for her tireless devotion to these pursuits, her generosity to all who entered her orbit, her wide smile, and her loud laugh. She is survived by her two sons, Stafford L. Davis (Jennifer) and Steven W. Skerritt-Davis (Ben); her father, Lawrence H. Wilkinson (Sally); her brother Steven Wilkinson (Eva) and her sister Jan Wilkinson Bannister (Rob); and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband Stafford G. Davis and her mother Elizabeth Wilkinson. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 4 pm on March 24, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Gilcrease Museum, the Boy Scouts of America, or the American Cancer Society in Su's honor.
